Legendes en sagen: The sad story of Helmut Stok.

(or how Helmut got its name:)

Helmoet Stok: (Legendary Hero)

In 1012 (NT) the year of the Bloating Goat. cattle and folk around Zendouros lived in fear for their lives. And for good reasons. The great black wyrm Tharro-enyawn was harrasing the countryside for year upon year. Offerings were made to the creature with sheep, childeren en cream (which it seemed to like) to please it but it looked like Tharro-enyawn could never be pleased enough.

However in 1012 a Knight came to the city of Zendouros. He claimed he would slay the dragon for price. the city council ofcourse bargained hard but the Knight would have non of the bargaining. He wanted payment of a 30.000gp and the founding of a village in his name. After three weeks negotiating the city council agreed to the price if he succeeded to slay Tharro-enyawn.

The council asked the knight for his name. But the knight claimed that he would state his name when he would return, succesfully, from his mission.

The next day the knight went of to the swamp in the east were Tharro-enyawn would live. How the battle went is lost in the mist of time. But what is known is that the knight slew Tharro-enyawn. He was himslef terribly wounded but almost made it back to Zendouros. he crossed the river Barsolland and there he fell of his horse. He struggled further. Tugging his helmet ferociously.

This is known because a sheppard boy by the name of Leon Sheppardson saw him crawling and struggling in his bashed battered, and smolthering armor. He hurried over to the knight and knew it must be the knight who went to slay Tharro-enyawn. Leon asked if the knight was succesfull and the knight nodded whilst crying out “Helmet Stuck, Helmet Stuck, Arrrch, Helmet Stuck” and pointing to his helm. Leon nodded understandingly and replied, while pointing to his own head. “And I'm am Leon Sheppardson. and what a victorious glory for the land that you, Sir Helmut Stok, defeated the wyrm” But the Knight never answered. He fell, flat on his face.

Leon turned him around and tried to remove the helmet. But it was stuck. He decided to go for help and started running to the city. Three days later he returned with half the council a priest and a smith. The knight was still lying on his back and, when the smith got his helm and armor removed, declared dead.

Despite the fact that they actually never knew his real name the city council nevertheless kept their promise and founded the village Helmut (Leon was very convincing to the council) from the 30.000gp (or more likely something less) in honour of this brave knight who slayed the wyrm Tharro-enyawn.
