Given the prevalence of spellcasters in most campaign worlds, the existence of wild mages becomes fairly easy to accept, requiring only little explanation to their origin and characteristics. Since wild mages remind so much of sorcerers or warlocks on the surface, some wild mages choose to mimic these professions in order to gain a modicum of respect from arcane colleagues, though such charades rarely last for long. Most wild mages never reveal their magic at all; instead they try to pass themselves off as commoners or mercenary fighters, revealing only their magic when in dire need. The wild mage adds great depth to the characters who grew disillusioned with drawing magic from dusty tomes and digging through the excrement of bats, who rebelled against the traditions and claimed a path of her own. The former apprentices of impatient archmages might announce that they are embarking upon a path that others fear to tread in pure spite of their former teacher. Given the prevalence of spellcasters in most campaign worlds, the existence of wild mages becomes fairly easy to accept, requiring only little explanation to their origin and characteristics.
